As preparation for electrification works and part of a station refurbishment, a new footbridge has been constructed at the Orlando Street end of the station. The footbridge is normally closed to the general public and may only be accessed in the case of an emergency via gates controlled by an electromagnetic interlock system. In the case of an emergency the gates automatically open and the staircases and main span of the footbridge are illuminated by the use of Chromatica LED luminaries.
